President's Message

I want to thank all of you who supported me in 2010 as President-Elect and as I look to this year as President, I am humbled to be able to serve on the Executive Board for my third consecutive year. It has been a learning experience which has had its ‘ups and downs’. I am encouraged that 2011 will be a fantastic year for our organization.

I have been reading several different books lately but one of my favorites is called “The Last Lecture” by Randy Pausch. He was a professor at Carnegie Mellon College who discovered that he had terminal cancer and instead of looking at the glass ‘half empty’, he looked at his challenge with optimism and hope. My theme this year is “Believe You Can…and You Will”. One chapter he discusses “If at First You Don’t Succeed…” Mr. Pausch gave four statements but one that moved me was “Whether you think you can or can’t, you’re right.” I love how children dream big! My son, at one time, said he wanted to be a NFL Football player and my 8 year old daughter already has informed me that she is going to open up a cupcake shop – guess I better start losing weight!

We all need to dream big and reach for a higher goal. Whether it is with our professional aspirations or personal goals you set, we should have confidence that we can! VASA will grow and provide a way that administrative support personnel can gain more knowledge through training and network with others.
